I just pulled out the "Psychoeducation Assessment Report" I had done when I was 12yrs old. After the report, nothing changed at school. The teachers were the ones who suggested I get the assessment. And they were the ones who did nothing. I think the education system failed me in some ways.
Some points the psychologist made in the 8 page report.
"At times, she shakes inexplicably in a school situation where she may be evaluated by her teacher or may fear being ridiculed by other students. "
"Her overall visual-spatial cognitive ability was found to be in the middle of the superior range and at the 94th percentile compared to others her age. There wasa 25 point difference between her average verbal abilities and her superior visual-spatial abilities, and this difference represents a real and significant difference in Sarah's intellectual potential in the two domains. "
"At word attack task using nonsense words yielded a late grade two rquivalent score "
"She had not mastered the number facts for addition beyond about tweleve, and she had not learned the number facts for multiplication beyond about five. "
Still have not.
"...numerous spelling errors even of words Sarah had spelled correctly elsewhere in her story. "
" A long-term verbal memory inconsistency may be at the root of Sarah's apparent difficulty learning the factual information she needs for reading and arithmetic "
And the last line of the overall summary:
"Sarah has the potential for above average learning "
For f*ck sakes why didn't they give me the god damn tools or chance to fix my learning!! I remember reading the report when it was done and not understanding a word of it, and now that I do, I wish someone would have done something for me. Now I have graduated highschool and cannot go back to re-do it all for a better average and this chance for apparenly being an 'above average learner'.
Thanks a f*cking lot school. Thanks for not helping me one god damn bit. I should have blown up the school or something stupid like that.

I think Mark Twain once said "Don't let your schooling get in the way of your education." So, so true. It was our Senior Graduation quote, much to the dismay of the principal.

I totally agree about educating yourself and what.
But cmon, they could have done something. ANYTHING. I struggle with all the shit now. Somehow graduated with all university courses and I cannot even reduce ratios. I cannot add or subtract fractions (other than the simple 1/2,1/4 type ones). I cannot spell, the firefox dictionary tool is the only thing that saves my typing. I have awful speech abilities. pajlstgleshkrshjk I hate school

Was this a public school? If this was a public school I'm not surprised, the North American public school system is pretty shitty lately, one of the main reasons as to why I support the whole school vouchers idea. Private schools tend to usually be better than public schools due to alternative funding methods.

I am in Canada, but ya it is public. They didn't even suggest to take me out of French like they do with other struggling kids. The dude said I am very weak at pronouncing made up words, what made them think I would benifit from French?? I barely passed. And I cheated to pass.
But whatever...I am glad I am done now.

It's schools like that that make people start hating the whole concept of education. I think if there were better schools, preferably private, they'd embrace the idea of educating themselves so much more.

The fact is, nowadays the teachers and school shrinks micromanage thier students down to unacceptable levels, this being espessially prevalent in the younger years. For lack of a better example, I'll use myself. In elementary, simply put, I was a "dumb kid" a "late bloomer" a "retardate" or as they would refer to me now, "a child with a learning deficit".
They nearly put me in a remedial class for things they never bothered to teach, or things that weren't explained on an, I don't know, GRADE THREE LEVEL. Even in science where I was exceptional, they got repeatedly angry when I didn't understand something explained to me the first time over. What they don't seem to understand is that you're what, a seven year old child, gimme a break for christsakes. You can't learn everything in one sitting and quite frankly if they bothered teaching us correctly and not putting us into retard classes over the smallest worries we'd be fine.
Those bastards said I'd be a failure and now I'm in IB sciences, *shrugs* it just goes to show you what a little hard work can do once you learn how to talk properly.

And that is solid, solid proof that the problem with the public educational system are the educators and that it's not always the students' faults. But nooo, would the teachers listen to us if we were to say that? Not at all, because they'll all be like "Well, we're the teachers, you're the students, we're always right. If we say the goddamn Earth is flat, you sure as hell well believe it, because you're always wrong."
Goddamn teachers, I'm so glad I'm done with highschool.

Well, I agree, most public schools do not nurture to the need of their pupils and in thus doing, hinder the childs educational development. However, it is also in part the parents responsibility to assure that their child gets the attention required for proper development. The teachers know whats wrong and just dont care enough to do anything, the parents dont understand whats wrong but care enough to do something. Both are at fault, the teachers are supposed to find out wahts wrong, and the parents are supposed to deal with it. I find the parents tend to try and shove all the responsibility to the school, and that is unfair, lets be honest, in a school of lord knows how many students, about 15% have some educational deficient, and to expect the school to take care of everyone and assure they develop properly is assinine yes they should take the consideration of the student, but if you're going to bitch about the schools lack of attention, do the same about the parents as well

That's what the schools did to me.. Only I knew I had some trouble in certain areas and they all expected me to be this exceptional student that could learn ANYTHING... So they shoved me in A level science and maths and expected me to be able to do it all already.. Even though I'd never even seen some of the forumlas etc that they put in front of me.. Do you know how hard A level physics is when you've never even DONE physics before! Stupid assholes.. I was getting fucking 18% on my maths tests.. yet they decide to shove me in the top class.. i don't get it..... That's why I left and decided to do homeschooling.. Basically I can do anything I want at my own pace.. And I love it... Boycott public education.

I don't know about overseas, but in Australia at least, the Private schools are in no way better than the public ones. In my expeciences actually, the public schools seem to be more dedicated to looking after their students needs. But that's just what I've seen...
I'm with Lyz... homeschooling all the way...
