Anyone familar with this theory?
I am slowly working on the book The Jesus MysteriesWas the Original Jesus a Pagan God? by Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy.
Looking at the myths of Osiris-Dionysus (Pagan god which goes by many different names) and the stories from the Christian bible about Jesus Christ, you will find a number of shocking similarities.
Yes, all religions share some common aspects but the relationship between Christianity and Pagan beliefs and historical evidence, you willl find they are almost too similar.
Both Osiris-Dionysus and Jesus are the only sons of God, both came from mortal virgin mothers, both have stories of riding donkeys through their crowd of followers with palm leaves, both use the bread and wine metaphore before their deaths, both died on a cross (Jesus with a crown of thorns, Osiris-Dionysus with a corwn of ivy), both died and were reserected on the same days, both had 12 deciples, both preformed the same healings, teachings, miricals etc etc.
Along with this, they share common symbols (slightly altered) such as the cross, fish symbol etc etc.
I am not good with history, so I am not going to try to explain how Christianity came to be from Pagism. But Pagans came first. If I go futher I will confuse us all.
Anywho. Thoughts? Could Christianity actually be a stolen version of Pagan myths turned into 'reality'? Or do you share the beliefs some have which is 'the devil is behind it' and that Christianity has no connection to Pagism and it is just the devil fucking with us? Or you just don't know?
Anyway, I suggestion you check out the book. Another good book on it is The Pagan Christ by Tom Harpur.
DISCUSS!

Hrm, I heard about this theory regarding the similarities between Jesus and certain pagan gods. Which particular pagan religion does Osiris-Dionysus come from? He sounds to me like a mixture of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and debauchery, and Osiris, the Egyptian god of the dead.

You are correct. There is also Minor Attis of Asia, Adonis of Syria, Bacchus of Italy, Mithras of Persia. In the book, they refer to these gods as a combined Osiris-Dionysus. They are basicly the same god man. They have unique myths with each name, but in the end, are the same god.

Indeed..paganism came first.... Christians destroyed alot of things...What they didn't destroy...they perverted....Holidays...Symbolism...All that... I'm too zonked out to list a whole lot...So here are some linkages that I found that might be of some interest... www.religioustolerance.org/chr_jcpa1.htmrealmagick.com/articles/51/1551.htmlI was going to stick a link opposing the whole "Paganism fallacy" in..just for kicks...but I actually read it...And the argument was so weak.... If I find anything else...I'll add it..Too tired....
