Intelligent Studios has done it again...and this time, it's better than ever! New to the Nintendo DS is Advance Wars: Dual Strike, the newest member of the Wars Series' happy little family. Ever since the beginning, with the Japanese Only "Famicom Wars" and "Super Famicom Wars" the Wars Series has always had a place in my heart...well...not until I was able to download them on my computer.
Advance Wars, being the major branchoff from the Wars series, is a story of five countries, Orange Star (Modern Day America), Blue Moon (Russia), Yellow Comet (Japan), Green Earth (Germany) and Black Hole (evil alien thingies), each with their own set of CO's (Commanding Officers) who can grant special powers to their troops during battle. In this game, Black Hole has begun their attack on Omega Land, and it's time for the Allied Nations to put a stop to their evil tyranny.
For those of you who have never played any of the Wars games, Advance Wars is a turned based strategy game where you purchase and build up an army, then duke it out other countries CO's until the other countries army('s) is/are obliterated. With a selection of anything from Infantry, Recons, Tanks, Battleships, Aircraft Carriers, Fighter Jets, Bombers, Artillery Cannons, Missile Silos and much more, this game will keep you hooked for hours on end...as long as you don't grow impatient quickly. Some battles tend to last hours if played well enough.
Pick any CO from a list of 27 available CO's, each with their own unique powers and abilities, and prepare for battle. The CO you pick will determine your army's stats, powerups, income, defence, vision and more. If you build up your CO Power Bar, you can unleash even more power on your opponents.
Now, for Speed's Review's Game Stats Check:
Graphics: Quite a nice tuneup from Advance Wars 2, 4 / 5
Gameplay: Much like the previous games in the series, so it feels nice and easy to get used to, 4 / 5
Difficulty: Easily the hardest game in the series, they really tuned the AI up, 5 / 5
Sound: The music has been upgraded since last time, and the new songs are great, 5 / 5
Replay Value: This depends on the player, but I think it has good replay value, 4 / 5
I give Advance Wars: Dual Strike a 4 / 5. Now if you'll excuse me, I have some wars to finish...*runs off to finish Hard Campaign*
