Is the memory during a blackout totally irretrivable? Do you have the memory or is it more a case of a faliure to lay down memories. Its so weird... something happened, you functioned... but when you awaken its as if you werent there.

I used to think that the memories were irretrievable, but due to personal experiences I've changed my mind. I tend to have blackouts often when I drink heavily; the next day when I wake up I don't remember anything. However, I've noticed that certain things can stimulate the mind to remember the memory, for instance, having someone tell you about what happened. This sometimes causes you to remember more and more information about what happened.
Also, seeing or hearing certain things can stimulate the memory and you manage to piece things together. For instance, this one time I was drinking copious amounts of alcohol and passed out in my chair. When I woke up the next morning I noticed that my phone was in front of me, so I looked at it, and wondered what it was doing there as I didn't remember having placed it there. Then I remembered that during my liquor-induced stupor I had angrily called one of my friends and yelled at her about something. When I saw her again the next day she confirmed what I had thought happened and I promptly apologized.

I had one major black out...where I was still moving around stuff. 2yrs later and I can remember bits now. I still have no memory of the ride home, or my friends throwing me in the shower. But I can remember crawling around on the floor now and my friend's sister yelling for someone to come take care of me.
So I think with time you can get certain bits back...but never all of it.

lol I just wish I knew what I did last night. Last thing I remeber is walking to my house with 2 of my freinds (I think) plotting to steal my dads mushrooms, but then - they're not stolen, they're still there. And I know I didn't take any of them. Part of me wonders if the plotting wasn't a dream, if my freinds left their house at all or if I just imagined that and went home by myself...
